Communication
Effective and thoughtful communication is key in enacting inclusive school leadership. The way we write, speak, and present information, whether in letters, emails, meetings, visuals, or phone calls, shapes how students, parents, and carers experience our school, especially in moments of challenge or conflict.
By intentionally tailoring communication to be clear, accessible, culturally sensitive, and empathetic, school leaders can create a sense of welcome and respect for all members of the school community.
This means considering language choices, tone, and format so that messages are both understood and received in the spirit intended. In difficult situations, such an approach helps maintain trust, reduce defensiveness, and open the door to constructive partnership, ensuring that families feel heard, valued, and supported in working together for the benefit of the child.
